Manikkavasagar was a 9th century Tamil poet, one of the four great saints of Shaivism popularly known as “Nalvar” As his name predicts his compositions of Shaivite hymns collectively known as Tiruvasakam is indeed considered a “Sea of Jewels” even today. He is one of the main authors of the Shaivite Tirumurai, the key religious text of Tamil Shaiva Sidhanta.
