The festival of lights - Diwali is one of the most significant festivals celebrated in India. The day is primarily celebrated to commemorate the day that Lord Krishna defeated the demon Narakasura. People light lamps outside their homes to symbolize the victory of good over evil.
The story is narrated in an ancient musical story telling format, Villupaattu, popular with the Tamils. Villupaatu is narration interspersed with simple tunes. Subbu Arumugam, the chief story teller is a Tamil scholar and a poet, bestowed with sharp acumen and presence of mind.
