Sangeetha Sangamam is a music series of 16 parts which explains similarities and differences between Hindustani and Carnatic Ragas. Indian classical music is generally based on two traditions, the Carnatic music prevalent in South India and the Hindustani classical music in North India. Both may have the same ragas but the name of the ragas and the way they are performed is different.
In this episode, the Queen of Raga “Kalyani” in Carnatic, and “Yaman” in Hindustani, will be compared. Pieces of compositions exemplifying the intricacies of each raga will also be rendered by Lalitha Sharma, one of the few musicians in India who is adept at singing both the Hindustani and Carnatic styles of music. This series is produced by Dr.S.Krishnaswamy and anchored by Dr.Mohana Krishnaswamy.
