Nearly five decades ago, a popular Tamil weekly published a serial called THUPPARIYUM SAMBU (Sleuthing Sambu) written by Devan, a humorist comparable to P.G.Wodehouse in creating immortal comic characters. This was an instant success because the hero, Sambu was a uniquely entertaining "sleuth" who established rapport with the entire Tamil reading public with his "exploits" which unearthed many peculiar crimes which were "solved" mostly by accident when Sambu stumbled on the clues.
A Lawyer had sought Sambu's help to retrieve client’s will that he had lost in trust. He had borrowed a novel from Sambu as he left. Sambu has subsequently discovered that a rather intimate photograph of him with Vembu taken in their younger days had been by mistake, left in the novel as a bookmark. He does not want to face the embarrassment of this photograph becoming public. How Sambu not only retrieves the missing will in his own style but also gets back his photograph is narrated in the rest of the story
